Delma and Russell Allfrey live 20 km north of Christchurch city in Kaiapoi on the banks of the Kaiapoi River which runs to the Waimakariri River  They have worked in and around the locality(Russell) in Real Estate and management for the last 20 years.(Delma) in Executive Administration. Our main recreational enjoyments are (Delma entertaining guests) and Russell (fly and line fishing for Trout and Salmon), which he has been doing successfully for the past 30 years We live in and share with our guests a spacious 4 year old home close and handy to shopping amenities and the river .We will make your holiday a refreshing, entertaining, sightseeing and comfortable Homestay for you, our guests.

Kaiapoi

Shirts, hats trousers all in dull colours (bright colours are out), camouflage, grey or green are preferred colours. Wind jacket, wet weather gear. Waders, light weight chest waders with stocking feet are ideal in conjunction with felt soled wading boots, wading trousers, wading boots, shorts, polypropylene tights, thick socks, warm jersey's.

A township with a population of approx 8500 with about 3800 homes.
Workers commute to the city daily.The town offers sightseeing, river jet boat rides, "HMS Tuhoe" (see opposite) down the Kaiapoi River into the Waimakariri River to the mouth on the sea coast & back, a round trip of    2
1/2 hours.

Fishing Gear to bring

Rods:- Graphite 4-6 weight also a spare rod perhaps travel piece. 2 good reels capable of holding 75m of backing each.. Line -  double taper & weight forward floating colours Grey, brown, green,(no bright colours) 1 fast sinking wet cell  line colour Grey.

Entertainment

Yes we have all our favourites and more. Have you tried Pavlova yet?
We cater for all diets just tell us your likes & dislikes and we will oblige. Refreshments & beverages, as required to your taste.

Don't forget pack your shades and camera

Flies: -  dry,wet,nymphs

Nymphs:- lead weighted sizes 8-16 some bead headed & all the popular favourites Hares Ear, Pheasants Tail ,Caddis etc.
Dry flies:- all your favourites including Hopper, Humpy, Royal Wulff, Coch-y-bondu sizes 8-16
Wet flies:- all your favourites Blue Dun, Red Tip Governor, Black Gnat,  etc
Lures: - Streamers Silver & Red Shadow, Craig's Night , Glow in the Dark (Russell's own design), Kilwell No 1, Mrs. Simpson, Hamill's Killer, Micky Finn, sizes 2- 10
OR you may prefer to buy your stock when you arrive at our local fishing supply store

On a Camp fire

BBQ:- Steak grilled, Lamb chops grilled Hamburger grilled, Potatoes chipped, eggs sunny side up. Salads, pickles, breads (hey I'm getting hungry typing this!!!!) tell us your likes & dislikes and we will try to oblige.

Tying Flies

There is a huge selection of  fly tying materials at the local fishing supply stores in Kaiapoi & Christchurch, so you might like to tie your own, or you might like them personally tied for you by myself. However there is plenty of equipment available and it is always on hand even on site at the river or lake - the portable vise.

Weather

The trip must go on rain, hail or snow ,the fish still bite just the same,and it makes it more interesting for us to stalk  and catch our prey. Flying is subject to weather.
